Go Metro to LAX

A better way to get to and from LAX—without the traffic.

 How to Get to LAX

Paying Your Fare

What you need to know about paying your fare when taking Metro or FlyAway to LAX.

Park and Ride to LAX

Skip LAX terminal traffic by parking at a Metro Park & Ride, tapping your TAP card, and riding the train to the LAX/Metro Transit Center—then catch a free shuttle straight to your terminal.

Parking is available at the following stations near LAX:

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about getting to LAX with Metro buses, trains and Micro? You’re in the right place. Whether you’re a first-time rider or a frequent flyer, this section covers everything you need to know—from parking and fares to airport shuttles and travel tips.

Yes! Luggage is welcome on all Metro services and there are no baggage fees. For a smoother ride, please avoid blocking aisles or doors with your bags and use station elevators when carrying large suitcases.

Absolutely. All Metro Rail stations and vehicles are ADA accessible, including elevators and level boarding for easier access with wheelchairs, walkers or strollers.

It’s Metro’s new hub that connects the C Line, K Line, regional buses and a free LAX shuttle—all in one place. The station features real-time information screens, bike racks and easy transfers to airport services. A direct train-to-terminal connection is coming in 2026 via the LAX People Mover.

Taking Metro means avoiding terminal traffic in the dredded “horseshoe,” saving money on parking and rideshare like Uber and Lyft, and reducing your carbon footprint. Plus, Metro offers reliable, all-day service to fit any travel schedule. A direct train-to-terminal connection is coming in 2026 via the LAX People Mover.

Once you arrive at the LAX/Metro Transit Center, follow the signs to Bus Bays 1 and 2 for the free LAX shuttle. It runs frequently and drops you off directly at your terminal—no apps or extra fees required.

Yes. Metro is a safe and convenient way to get to LAX. As with any public transit, stay aware of your surroundings, keep your belongings close, and travel during hours that work best for you. Stations and trains are monitored, and Metro staff are available if you need help.

Yes. In addition to Metro’s C Line and K Line, several municipal bus agencies serve the LAX/Metro Transit Center, including Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Beach Cities Transit, GTrans (Gardena) and Torrance Transit. These make it easier to connect from various neighborhoods throughout the region.

Metro offers Park & Ride lots along the C and K Lines, some with long-term parking options. Pay with your TAP card at the station validator, and check availability or reserve in advance for select lots at metro.net/parking.

Travel time depends on your starting location. From downtown Los Angeles, expect about 45–60 minutes. Use Metro’s Trip Planner or a transit app like Transit or Google Maps to get a real-time estimate based on your departure time.

Metro offers service throughout the day, but hours may vary by line. Check the schedules for the C Line, K Line and the LAX shuttle to make sure they align with your flight time. For very early or late flights, consider checking for connecting bus services or using Metro for part of your trip.

LAX’s People Mover is expected to open in 2026 and will provide a direct, seamless rail link from the LAX/Metro Transit Center to all airport terminals. Until then, a free shuttle runs regularly from the station to each terminal.

Yes. The free LAX shuttle is wheelchair accessible and runs every 10 minutes, with stops at every terminal. Look for signs when you exit the train at the LAX/Metro Transit Center to find the shuttle stop.

  1. Inicie sesión en su cuenta TAP.

  4. Haga clic en el enlace “Agregar LIFE 20-Ride”.

Each month, Metro riders who are enrolled in LIFE can continue to load 20 free regional rides onto their TAP card. Once all 20 rides have been used, LIFE riders will participate in fare capping, where they will use Stored Value to pay for each ride until they reach the 1-day or 7-day cap.

No, el descuento LIFE no se puede agregar en una máquina expendedora TAP.

No, los descuentos LIFE solo se pueden aplicar a una tarjeta por participante. Cada miembro de la familia debe tener su propia tarjeta TAP.

Yes, unused rides may be rolled over to the following month. A TAP card can hold up to eight of the same products (the 20-ride option is considered a product), including the one currently in use. Once your card is holding eight 20-ride passes, you must either use up an existing 20-ride pass, opt to use your LIFE discount toward a monthly/weekly pass or forgo the monthly discount.

Keeping Metro Safe for Everyone

We are constantly working to improve the safety, cleanliness and comfort on Metro. This includes testing various technologies, such as advanced weapons detection systems. These systems help reduce incidents and create a more secure environment for everyone.

What Metro Riders Need to Know

Weapons, including firearms, are strictly prohibited on the Metro system.

All passengers must go through the weapons screening procedure to enter. Failure to comply will result in removal from Metro and may lead to arrest.

Tell Us About Your Experience

We’re dedicated to ensuring your Metro ride is not only safe but also convenient. Your feedback matters—let us know how we’re doing at: CustomerRelations@metro.net

Thank you for riding with us and helping keep Metro safe for everyone!

How to Park, Store and Get Around on Bikes

Whether you’re getting around using Metro Bike Share or your own bike, we’ve got cyclists covered.

More Biking Resources

Check out these additional guides and resources for bicyclists, including a bike map and safety guides.

Quick guides and map

Find routes with a Bike Map and get tips for safe, confident riding in our Bike Pocket Guide and Bike Safety Rules of the Road (California Vehicle Code) flyer. The Metro Guide to Biking is available in student and instructor versions.

Lost your bike?

If your bike is accidentally left on a bus or train, report it to Lost & Found online. You can also visit Lost & Found at 3571 Pasadena Ave. near Metro Rail Heritage Square Station, Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

Bikes on Bus

Bikes can be brought onto buses and trains if space is available. Metro Bike Share bikes are not allowed on buses or trains. Keep in mind the rules for bikes on Metro Bus:

  1. Arrive at the stop early and wait on the sidewalk.
  2. Remove all loose items not attached to your bike, for example bags on handle bars, helmets, lights.
  3. Locking your bike to the bus rack is not allowed. For extra security, you can lock your wheel to the frame before the bus arrives.
  4. You are responsible for loading and unloading your bicycle. Wait until the bus is fully stopped before loading your bike. Always approach the bus from the sidewalk.
  5. Sit or stand near the front of the bus to watch your bicycle during your trip.
  6. Just before your stop, tell the bus operator that you will be getting your bike from the rack and exit through the front door.
  7. Never try to retrieve something that rolls under the bus.
  8. Motorized bicycles or any bicycle over 55 pounds cannot be accommodated on Metro bus bike racks. Folding bikes with 20-inch or smaller wheels can be taken on board. Make sure your bike is folded and stored under a rear seat so as not to block aisles and doorways. Motorized folding bikes are not allowed.

Bikes on the Train

All Metro trains have a designated area for bicycles — look for the doors marked with the yellow sign. Metro Bike Share bikes are not allowed on buses or trains. Remember the rules for bikes on Metro Rail:

  1. Follow ADA-accessible routes to find elevators and wider, wheelchair-accessible gates, to safely bring your bike in and out of stations.
  2. Always walk your bike through stations and on train platforms.
  3. Enter at doors marked with the yellow sign on the right.
  4. Avoid parking your bicycle behind operator’s cabin lead car.
  5. Always keep doors and aisles clear, and be courteous to other passengers.
  6. Give priority to wheelchair passengers in designated areas.
  7. Always stand with your bike in the designated open area on board the train.
  8. Use elevators or stairs to enter and exit the station. Bikes are not allowed on escalators.
  9. Folding bikes are encouraged and allowed on board. Make sure it is properly folded.
  10. Electric bicycles are allowed if they are the size of a regular bike and are subject to safety inspection by security personnel. Fuel powered, 3-wheeled, tandem, recumbent and over 6-foot long bicycles, as well as all mopeds and trailers, are not allowed. Failure to obey these rules may result in a citation; ref. PC 640 (b) (9) (A).

Tap for Free Rides

It’s simple, the more you ride, the more you save.

On Metro, each ride you pay for with TAP gets you closer to free rides.  Once you reach the 1-Day or 7-Day fare cap, rides are FREE!

Take 3 paid rides for $5, or 11 paid rides for $18. After that, it's free.

Ride with a TAP card. Ride more and ride for free.

What is fare capping?

Fare capping means you never pay more than a certain amount for rides within a specific time. Once you pay that amount called a “cap” all rides on Metro buses and trains are free. Metro has 1-Day and 7-Day caps.

Fare capping works when you pay for rides with a TAP card, TAP app or Apple Wallet. Learn More.

Metro C Line Service Changes: July 2024 through January 2025

Overhead Wire Replacement Project, Phase 2

Please be advised that Phase 2 of the overhead wire replacement work for the east end of the C Line between Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station and Norwalk Station will begin July 14, 2024.

The following changes to C Line service will be necessary to allow staff access to one of the two operating tracks to complete the replacement of overhead wires that provide the power supply for each train. The current wires are approaching 30 years and need to be replaced to ensure reliable service.

C Line service changes to accommodate this critical work are as follows:

  • Sunday, July 14 through Saturday, August 17, 2024: C Line service will operate every 20 minutes on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays between Norwalk Station and Redondo Beach Station. Additional trains will operate between Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station and Redondo Beach Station weekdays between 5am and 8:30am and between 2pm and 6:30pm.
  • Sunday, August 18 through Saturday, August 24, 2024: A bus bridge will operate between Norwalk Station and Long Beach Bl Station (also serving Lakewood Bl Station) to replace C Line rail service. 12-minute rail service frequency will operate between Long Beach Bl Station and Redondo Beach Station.
  • Sunday, August 25 through Sunday, October 27, 2024: C Line service will operate every 15 minutes on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays between Norwalk Station and Redondo Beach Station. Additional trains will operate between Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station and Redondo Beach Station weekdays between 6am and 8:30am and between 2pm and 6:30pm.
  • Monday, October 28, 2024, through Monday, January 27, 2025: Normal 10-minute C Line service frequency will operate between Norwalk Station and Redondo Beach Station. At a date yet to be confirmed during this period, a new structure for the C and K Lines will be launched as Metro prepares to open the new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station.

Work on phase 2 of the C Line overhead wire replacement program will continue in 2025. Further details on C Line service impacts will be released closer to 2025 based on project progress and coordination with the opening of the new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station.

Metro apologizes for any inconvenience these changes may cause. Please allow additional time for travel. These revised C Line schedules will be reflected on Google and other trip planning aps.

Everyone Deserves a Safe Metro https://www.metro.net/riding/safety-security/ Mon, 08 Aug 2022 20:06:28 +0000 https://www.metro.net/?post_type=riding&p=71325 Metro is committed to providing you with a great experience on our system.
That means a system that’s safe, convenient, reliable and clean. Here’s what we’re doing to ensure that.

The post Everyone Deserves a Safe Metro appeared first on LA Metro.

Everyone Deserves a Safe Metro

We are deploying more security officers, ensuring people on the system are there to ride, and addressing issues of untreated mental illness and drug abuse with partner services.

Here’s what we are doing.

Support Teams

Metro’s transportation system is safeguarded through a comprehensive plan involving multiple security personnel. The key components of this strategy include:

Law Enforcement Partners: Metro buses, trains, and stations are regularly patrolled by law enforcement officers who maintain a visible presence to deter crime and respond quickly to incidents.

Metro Transit Security Officers: These officers enforce the code of conduct and fare payment across the transit system, ensuring compliance and maintaining order.

Metro Ambassadors: Serving as additional support for riders, Metro Ambassadors assist passengers with various needs and report any issues they observe, contributing to a safer and more pleasant transit experience.

Safe Spaces

We are constantly working to improve the safety, cleanliness, and comfort of the Metro system. This includes various enhancements and measures such as:

Security Cameras: Installed across the system to monitor and deter criminal activity.

Lighting: Improved lighting at stations and on buses to ensure visibility and safety.

Fare Gates: Implemented to ensure fare compliance and reduce fare evasion.

Elevators and Escalators: Regular maintenance and upgrades to ensure reliability and accessibility.

Bus Operator Barriers: Installed to protect bus operators and enhance their safety while on duty.

By investing in these areas, we aim to provide a safer and more pleasant experience for Metro employees and riders.

Social Challenges

Metro is dedicated to addressing homelessness, untreated mental illness, and drug abuse within the transit system. To achieve this, we work with County, City and Regional Agencies to implement a care-based approach through various initiatives:

Homeless Outreach Partners: Collaborating with organizations that specialize in providing support and resources to homeless individuals.

Department of Mental Health: Partnering with mental health professionals to offer assistance and intervention for those with untreated mental illness.

Staff Training: Equipping Metro staff with the necessary training to effectively and compassionately handle issues related to homelessness, mental illness, and drug abuse.

By integrating these efforts, Metro aims to create a safer and more supportive environment for all passengers.

Staying Safe

Metro is working to keep you safe, and here are some of the steps you can to ensure your safety while riding, including following Metro’s Code of Conduct.

Hands holding mobile phone with Transit Watch app displayed on screen.

Report Issues

If you see something, say something using the TransitWatch app or calling 888.950.SAFE. For emergencies call 911.

Be Aware

Stay alert, avoid distractions like your phone, keep an eye on your belongings and look out for your fellow riders.

Choose Safe Spots

Stand or sit in well-lit areas near other riders. Locate emergency intercoms in trains, on platforms and near entrances.

Ride Metro

Metro’s Rail Safety Programs strives to increase safe ridership through educational rail safety presentations and travel training at schools within 0.5 mile radius of street-running Metro rail lines (A, E & K Lines). Additionally, the program conducts presentations to libraries, recreation centers and other community organizations within a 1.5 mile radius of street-running Metro rail lines.

After completing a Rail Safety presentation, a Rail Safety Orientation Tour can be requested. Rail Safety Orientation Tours are a hands-on approach that provide an overview of local Metro stations, transfer points, safety riding tips and more.

Ride Metro

There are multiple options when deciding how to get where you’re going, and sometimes combining more than one mode is your best option. As we focus our efforts on sharing the ride as opposed to driving alone, we will reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality, while saving countless wasted hours on our freeways. Look through the commuter and employer programs we offer here at Metro to find services that will make your life easier and your businesses greener.

Commuters

Carpooling/Ridematching Services

Connect with other commuters who share the same travel time, route and who are looking to save money.

Metro Vanpool

Metro Vanpool helps commuters with similar schedules and similar destinations get to and from work with ease.

Metro Bike Share

Metro Bike Share offers 24/7 access to a fleet of bikes for local trips and to connect to and from transit on your own schedule. Get a bike from any Metro Bike Share station, go for a ride and properly return it.

Bike Month 2025

Bike Month is more than an event – it is an opportunity to encourage cycling as a viable and enjoyable transportation option, reaffirming Metro’s commitment to sustainability, integrated mobility and active transportation. It’s a time to shift perceptions and encourage more people to see cycling as a convenient, rewarding and empowering way to navigate our communities.

Throughout May, Metro will celebrate Bike Month, including Bike Week from May 12-16 and Bike Day on Thursday, May 15, 2025. To make cycling even more accessible, Metro will offer free fares on May 15, encouraging new and existing riders to experience the ease of combining biking with public transit.

We created a toolkit to help ETCs promote Bike Month 2025, which contains key messaging content for emails and social media, flyers, posters and a list of all of the great Bike Month prizes (over $10,000) for bike commuters that track their trips in May on the Commute Calendar.

For more information contact bikemonth@metro.net, and together, we can help build a more connected LA—one bike ride at a time.

Employers

Metro Employer Annual Pass Programs

Metro’s Employer Annual Pass Programs offer annual fare pass options for businesses within LA County to increase mobility and reduce traffic congestion.

Guaranteed Ride Home

The regional Guaranteed Ride Home Program (GRH) provides employees who rideshare to work up to two (2) reimbursed rides home in the event of a valid emergency each fiscal year.

Metro Bike Share for Business

Offering a discounted Bike Share pass to your employees can boost employee productivity and morale while providing a healthy way to get around Los Angeles

Metro Rewards

The Metro Rewards program recognizes eligible rideshare commuters with a chance to win gift cards and Metro passes. The more you rideshare, the more chances to win. Contact our team for more information at commuteroptions@metro.net

Telecommuting

Telecommuting is a great way to increase employee retention, reduce the need for office space and parking, and reduce commute trips to your site. If you do not have a telecommuting policy yet, Metro has resources to help. Contact our team for more information.

Employee Transportation Coordinator Support

Metro offers support with Air Quality Management District regulations and strategies to become a greener business at absolutely zero cost. We are staffed experts for your assistance in Average Vehicle Ridership reports, rideshare program marketing and implementation, and much more.

2023 Aging and Disability Transportation (ADT) Report for Older Adults and Persons with Disability: Please provide your ideas and  feedback.

Metro and the Aging and Disability Transportation Network (ADTN) are seeking your creative ideas on how to better serve Metro & Access customers.

ADTN Customer Feedback Survey

Los Angeles Metro Aging and Disability Transportation Network (ADTN)

LA Metro, Access Services and the ADTN are inviting older adults, persons with disability, and their family members/caregivers to provide innovative ideas on how Metro can better address transportation needs of these groups.

Click on the following button for a short video about the ADT Report:
Click here for the complete ADT Report for your review and information:

Why your feedback is important:

Today about 35% of people 65 or older have a disability. By 2030 one out of every five Angelenos is anticipated to be an older adult. Notably, people over age 85 will increase much faster than those over age 60.

Metro and The Aging and Disability Transportation Network (ADTN) are seeking your innovative ideas regarding how Metro can better accommodate Older Adults and Persons with Disability.

It’s an excellent opportunity for older adults and persons with disability to brainstorm ideas to help Metro and Access Services build an inclusive and equitable transit system for all customers.

Thank you in advance for your ideas and feedback.  Please feel free to reach out to the Metro Accessibility Team with your questions.
